Jenna Schneider Discusses Meta’s Federal Trial on Youth Safety with Corporate Counsel
Special counsel Jenna Schneider spoke with Corporate Counsel about how New Mexico’s nearly $1 billion judgment against Meta could influence Meta’s federal trial in Northern California over platform design and youth safety.
Jenna noted that the recent New Mexico ruling was more nuanced than the headline figure suggests. While Meta suffered a major financial loss, the court declined to require changes to key platform features, including algorithms, infinite scroll, and autoplay.
One of the decision’s more novel features, Jenna noted, was the court’s direction that Meta improve its age-assurance tools and develop an AI model capable of predicting whether users are under 13.
