Daniel Contreras

Overview

Daniel A. Contreras is a Litigation Associate at Watstein Terepka. He advises clients in high-stakes, complex litigation across the country, representing everyone from individuals to multi-billion-dollar companies across nearly every type of civil case, including civil rights, complex commercial disputes, consumer protection, copyright infringement, fraud, personal injury, and trade-secret misappropriation.

He is experienced in all stages of litigation and has obtained favorable outcomes in pre-lawsuit negotiations, mediation, pretrial settlements, trial verdicts, arbitration rulings, and appeals. His recent successes include a complete defense verdict after a five-week trial involving a real estate developer, a victory in arbitration on a breach-of-contract claim, summary-judgment wins across a variety of matters, and defeating a motion for preliminary injunction in a bet-the-company arbitration. Lately, Daniel has represented individuals and classes of plaintiffs in discrimination, sexual harassment, and copyright-infringement cases.

Daniel holds his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he was a top-ranked competitor on the Mock Trial Team and a member of the Executive Committee of the California Law Review. He earned the American Jurisprudence Award for the top grade in his Legislation and Statutory Interpretation class, was the only 2L to advance to the elimination stage of the McBaine Moot Court Competition, and finished in the top 10% of his class in his 3L year. After law school, he served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Xavier Rodriguez of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Texas at Austin.

Outside the courtroom, Daniel is passionate about sports, reading genre fiction, playing music, and being in nature.
