Nathaniel Haas Quoted by Daily Journal on Nearly $200M Wrongful Death Verdict
Litigation partner Nathaniel Haas was quoted in the Daily Journal article, “Nearly $200M Wrongful Death Verdict Highlights Rarity of Punitive Damages,” on the wrongful death verdict against Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson in connection with the deaths of brothers Mark and Jacob Iskander.
The verdict included both compensatory and punitive damages. Nathaniel explained that pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1431.2, non-economic damages are generally allocated according to each defendant’s percentage of fault. But because jurors found Grossman and Erickson acted in concert before the collision, they were not required to apportion fault between the two.
