Alexander Terepka

Alex Terepka is a founding partner of the firm. For more than a decade, he has handled his clients’ most sophisticated business litigation and class action matters in courts across the country. He served as lead counsel defending companies in dozens of class actions in federal courts nationwide, for example, without ever having a class certified—even for settlement purposes. Alex also has extensive trial experience, including client victories in all three jury trials he first-chaired. And he has substantial appellate experience, including briefing, arguing, and winning multiple appeals in federal circuit courts around the country. He has briefed, argued, and won an appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, for example. Herdocia–Jarquin v. Garland, 843 Fed. App’x 929 (9th Cir. 2021). Oral argument available here.

Some recent highlights include obtaining complete victories for his clients in consumer class actions. See, e.g., Fox v. Ritz-Carlton, 345 F.R.D. 358 (S.D. Fla. 2024) (denying certification in consumer class action); Coleman v. Humana, 2023 WL 3485242 (E.D.N.C. 2023) (dismissing consumer privacy class action with prejudice); Moledina v. Marriott, 635 F. Supp. 3d 941 (C.D. Cal. 2022) (ending consumer privacy class action at pleading stage in first-in-nation order holding that evidence showed claim lacked merit); Conner v. Fox Rehab. Servs., 2022 WL 4080761 (E.D. Pa. 2022) (denying certification in consumer privacy class action).

These accomplishments and other have led the federal judiciary to repeatedly “recognize” Alex’s “nationwide” “expertise.” Escano v. IFP, 2024 WL 243558, at *16 (D.N.M. 2024); see also Reisman v. Ne. Power & Gas, 2024 WL 795147 (S.D.N.Y. 2024), (recognizing that “Terepka has extensive experience defending companies” and noting “expertise”).

Prior to founding WT, Alex worked at two elite law firms and clerked for two federal judges: Judge Richard Clifton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Chief Judge George King of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Alex attended law school at the University of Michigan, where he served on the Michigan Law Review editorial board as an Articles Editor, graduated magna cum laude, was inducted to the Order of the Coif, and received multiple awards for best performance in the class. Prior to law school, Alex attended Cornell University, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and completed double majors in chemistry and history.
